How to Play Atlantic City Blackjack
The overall concept of Atlantic City Blackjack is the same as any other form of blackjack. Your goal is to beat the dealer and get closest to 21 without going over. To begin each player will need to place their bets at which point the dealer will give each player two cards, followed by taking two cards for himself. Each player will take a turn deciding what they will do with their hand based on the two cards in front of them and the dealers. Players should be aware of the other cards at the table as well before making their decision. Player options are the same and each player must decide whether they want to hit, stand, double down or split (according to Atlantic City Blackjack rules).
Once the player has completed his hand, the dealer will reveal his hand and hit or stand based on the dealer rules for Atlantic City blackjack. Once his hand is complete, a winner will be determined. If the dealer beats the player, all bets are lost. If the player beats the dealer by having a hand value higher than the dealers hand or if the dealer busts, the player will be paid according to the Atlantic City blackjack payout rates.
Specific Atlantic City Blackjack Rules
There are certain rules the player and dealer must follow for playing Atlantic City Blackjack. These include;
- A "Blackjack" pays 2:1 depending on the casino. Some casinos pay 1 1/2:1. Most online casinos pay 2:1
- The player won't lose his bets when a "Push" (a tie) is declared. This includes when the player and dealer both tie for blackjack. The player's bet will always be returned.
- Aces can only be split once, while all other cards may be split twice.
- Doubling Down is allowed after a player splits their hand.
- Re-splitting is not allowed
- Unlike standard blackjack, players can double down on any two-card hand.
- Insurance is offered when the dealer is showing an Ace. If the player takes insurance the dealer will look at their second card. If a blackjack is present, the player will receive a payout of 2:1 on the insurance bet. If the dealer doesn't have blackjack, the player loses his bet to the house. Although insurance is available in Atlantic City Blackjack, this type of bet should be avoided under normal circumstances. Most players take insurance more often than they should and with a 2:1 payout, the odds are against you. If your absolutely certain that the remaining cards in the shoe have more 10 value cards than non, you can take the bet.
- Dealer must draw on hands where the total is 16 or less
- Dealer must stand on all 17's to 21.
- Late surrendering is allowed in Atlantic City Blackjack.
