Joanna grew up in Maryland and was very good at mathematics right from the beginning. That is one of the keys to her being so good at her game. Once she developed sufficient interest in blackjack, she started working on using her mathematical talent to see how she could influence the outcome of her play, i.e. card counting. Over the years, Joanna has developed a reputation for being one of the top card counters in the game. Joanna has been a skilled blackjack player. In the 1990s, she teamed up with a blackjack team that was known for its high stakes play and reached great heights as a player. That was not all; in 2004, she decided to move on to playing at blackjack tournaments, and participated in the first season of the World Series of Blackjack, a televised event that aired on GSN.
Joanna Wlodawer has continued to play at blackjack tournaments, and also reached the final table of the Ultimate Blackjack Tour in its first season. In that event, she competed against personalities like Antonio ‘The Magician’ Esfandiari, Eric Bloore, David Matthews, Jimmy Pine, Robert Blechman, and James Grosjean.In 2006, she also got to be part of King of Vegas, a TV show on Spike TV that had experts from different gambling games play against each other on a weekly basis. The players competed on eight different casino games, with four games each week. The games started with blackjack and finished with Texas Hold’em. She was knocked out by Katie Porrello, an amateur player, in the Sudden Death round of this event.

Despite her commitment to and passion for blackjack, Joanna has not slipped up on other areas, such as academics. She has, in fact, gone ahead and done way better than most people. Joanna holds three degrees in all – a graduate science degree in biology, another in journalism, and a doctorate in chiropractic. She is today a licensed chiropractor besides being an expert at ripping apart people in blackjack games. That is not all; she also has a successful career in marketing as a marketing executive.Joanna Wlodawer is also a musician, and has released an electronic pop CD. In the CD, titled Epiphany, she is accompanied by Dee Fortney, her musical associate. She is also set to co-author a work with Max Rubin, one of the greatest blackjack players. Joanna will also be associated with the World Series of Blackjack.
