Jimmy Pine - Professional Blackjack Player
Being very good at what you do is usually a positive, but not in the world of gambling apparently, and certainly not if you are Jimmy Pine. In the world of gambling, you will find people from all backgrounds – musicians, professors, magicians – making it to the top of the heap, and one such name is Jimmy Pine. Pine is so good at his work that most casinos do not allow him to play at their tables.
Jimmy Pine was formerly a singer whose fame has increased not only because he is a blackjack expert but also because he bears a close resemblance to Tom Jones. A Rhodes Island resident, he is a big name in gambling circles, where he is more popularly referred to as Young Jimmy Dime, a name given to him by some friends from the East.
Jimmy Pine has become so well-known and successful that his face is familiar to security software at almost all the casinos in Las Vegas. Being a celebrity has its share of problems, and that is what Pine has found out.
Jimmy Pine – The Man Who Loves the Underdog
Jimmy Pine has an animated personality, to put it mildly, and is a man who loves the underdog. That has been another problem that the casinos have with him – his support to the players is quite vocal and he is known to shout out ‘Pay the little man!’ whenever a player manages to notch up a win against the house.
But that should not be reason enough for casinos to ban someone from playing at their tables, should it? So what is it about Jimmy Pine that makes casinos see red, a possible threat, and jolt them into action by barring him from playing at their tables? Basically, it has to do mostly with his skill as a blackjack player.
Pine is blessed with extraordinary skills when it comes to card counting. In many of the bigger casinos, there is a shortage of skilled staff that can differentiate between someone who is counting cards and someone who is cheating. A number of casinos therefore prefer to take the easy way out by not allowing the big boys of blackjack to play at their tables while ensuring they are within legal limits while doing so.
Legally, a casino cannot bar a professional blackjack player from playing, or even bar usage of a tactic like card counting. However, casinos have still managed to find out ways and means to ensure that they are able to successfully ban players that they do not want at their tables. In Nevada, for instance, it is just a question of upholding federal discrimination laws if a casino is looking to ban a particular player.
Jimmy Pine – Significant Achievements in Blackjack
Jimmy Pine has never had a regular job, and yet continues to remain a high roller for over two decades now. How has he managed to do that, you may ask yourself, given that the casinos do not allow him to play anyway? The answer to that is simple – he is allowed to participate in televised events, as having him on board them brings the casinos publicity and visibility.
There have been quite a few highs for Pine in his career as a professional blackjack player. One of the big wins he has achieved is the $100,000 jackpot he won at a competition. Pine has also played frequently in competition at the World Series of Blackjack, a televised blackjack event, and has once collected a $25,000 check when he placed third.
Pine also made an appearance as a competitor on the second episode of the program The Ultimate Blackjack Tour, which airs each week on CBS. His competition included names like Robert Blechman, Joanna Wlodawer, Eric Bloore, James Grosjean, David Matthews, and Antonio ‘The Magician’ Esfandiari. He also continues to visit the Mohegan Sun casino
