For his prolific presence in the game of blackjack, Tamburin is considered one of the modern day greats of the game.

Henry Tamburin – Early Days

Henry Tamburin also got introduced to blackjack quite early in life. The story of his first trip to Vegas makes for interesting reading. In the summer of 1968, when he was pursuing his graduation in Chemistry at the University of Maryland, he made a trip to Las Vegas. He was accompanied on that trip by his wife, and both of them made the trip thanks to the persistence of another couple.

When the foursome arrived at their hotel in Vegas, they found themselves at the wrong end of a long queue of people waiting to get to the front desk. Tamburin’s wife waited in the queue while he decided to try his hand at blackjack and play a few rounds. He lost their entire bankroll during that first round of play in Vegas, and they hadn’t even got to their hotel room! Lesson learned, Tamburin decided to master the game, and went on to become one of the greats of blackjack.

Tamburin went on to get his doctorate in Chemistry and worked in a chemical company for more than 30 years. Though he was such an excellent blackjack player, the irony is that he never considered a pro. Only in recent years, after his retirement from his regular job, has he started playing the game more. Also, while blackjack is the game Tamburin is fantastic at, he is also equally good at other casino games. Once, he completed a course in Dice Control, something that craps players do, and at the end of the course, set a class record for the most number of non-seven rolls – 45 (the previous record was 39).
